This is one of the oldest and largest national parks in Sri Lanka. The unique feature of this park is the natural lakes, hence the name Will-pattu (Land of Lakes). 180km north of Colombo situated in the dry zone of the North West coast, Wilpattu is rich with diverse eco system and plenty of flora and fauna. Famed for its growing leopard population it has gained prestige as one of the top national parks in the world. The park boasts of nearly 30 species of mammals such as elephants, water buffaloes, sloth bear and spotted dear to name a few. Wilpattu is also home to a wide variety of birds, reptiles and butterflies.
