It would be a shame to miss out on huge herds of elephants young and old, feeding and bathing together. Most famous for its elephant population, Udawalawe was declared a national park in 1972. This major eco tourism destination is located 200km south-east of Colombo spanning 30,821 hectares. Bird enthusiasts keep a look out for the park is full of endemic birds and cormorants. The occasional leopard, sloth bear, water monitor, sambar deer and monkeys can be sighted here as well.
